Croatian taxis must show the price of a 5 km ride on the door. In June 2026 a check at Zagreb's main station found taxis posting up to €85 for it, while an established operator charged €7.90. A legal cap starts on 1 January 2027, but it still allows €30 for that ride: almost four times the fair price. Most people only notice after they pay.

Does it work with Uber and Bolt?
Those apps show a fixed price before you book, so you already know the cost. Fareproof shows the fair range for the same trip, so you can compare it with the app price and with taxis at the rank.
Does it work outside Croatia?
Yes. Type the tariff from the taxi's price list (start fee, price per km, price per minute) and Fareproof works anywhere Google Maps has roads. Saved company prices start with Croatian cities.
Why do I need an account?
So your 5 free checks a year and any pass belong to you, not to one phone, and work on all your devices. It takes an email and a password. In the App Store and Google Play you can also buy a pass without one.
What is the legal maximum?
From 1 January 2027 Croatian taxis may charge at most €10 to start, €2.50 per km and €0.50 per minute (Narodne novine 111/2026). Fareproof shows that limit for every trip and warns you when a taxi's door price is above it.
Where do the company prices come from?
From each company's own website, with the date we checked it. The taxi you get into may charge differently, so Fareproof can also price the car in front of you from the price on its door.
Is my location stored?
Your rides stay on your phone. To find routes, the start and destination go through our server to Google Maps. Our server keeps only your email, how many checks you used and your passes, never your trips.
Will it drain my battery?
A ride check uses GPS about as much as a navigation app for the same time. In the iPhone and Android apps it keeps running with the screen off; in the browser, keep the screen on during the ride.
Is the estimate exact?
No estimate matches a meter to the cent. Fareproof gives a fair range that allows for small differences, and only flags rides that are clearly above it.
